The Parish of St Patrick's has two schools servicing the parish St James years 0-5 and St Peter's College years 11-13. St James' is the Parish School for St Patrick's Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and is part of a lively and thriving community. The school has a maximum roll of 270 and fully accommodates this and consequently parents are encouraged to enrol their children as early as possible in order to secure a position in the school. The school was started in 1958 and the sisters of Mercy were the founding teachers. Many of the original parents and first day pupils still reside within the community and there is a strong sense of pride and belonging that still exists toward the school. The school has 10 classrooms and offers and offers a strong curriculum based programme that focuses on high achievement that also reflects the Catholic character and culture of the community we are part of. There is a strong level of parental involvement not only in the day to day learning aspects of the school but also a strong social base that. The school boasts one of the most successful gala's in the Manawatu which involves every parent within the school. The proceeds have helped to transform the school and community dedication and commitment continues to be strong with a gala that has become a local institution.
